What Is Digital Marketing?

DM img

Digital marketing is the same as online marketing and internet advertising. It refers to any online marketing efforts or assets. Marketing your company online is a big deal these days because if we look at the statistics, internet usage has more than doubled over the past decade, wherever it is on a personal computer, a laptop, or on a mobile phone.

Basically, digital marketing is like any other type of marketing – but online. You connect and influence with your customers online, instead of connecting and influencing locally.

Some great examples of digital marketing include email marketing, pay-per-click advertising (PPC), social media marketing, blogging, ads and etc. I will mention some of the most important and common digital marketing assets and strategies of digital marketing:

Digital Marketing Assets

If you have a marketing tool at your disposal and use it online, then it’s basically a digital marketing asset. Some of them are the following:

  • Your website
  • Branded assets – logos, icons, acronyms
  • Video content – video ads, demos
  • Images – company shots, product photos
  • Content – blog posts, e-books, product descriptions
  • Online products
  • Reviews
  • Social media pages

Clever marketers are constantly coming up with new ways to reach customers online every single day, so this list can grow as long as you can imagine.

Digital Marketing Strategies

Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Advertising

PPC stands for payperclick, a model of internet marketing in which advertisers pay a fee each time one of their ads is clicked. Essentially, it’s a way of buying visits to your site, rather than attempting to “earn” those visits organically. Search engine advertising is one of the most popular forms of PPC. Facebook Ads are another form of PPC advertising called “paid social media advertising”, which I will explain shortly.

Paid Search Advertising

Some of the search engines, like Google, Yahoo, and Bing! allow you to run text ads on their search engine results pages (SERP). Paid search advertising is one of the best strategies to use to target your potential customers who are actively searching for a product or service that your company has to offer.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Instead of paying to show up on top of the SERP, you can also use SEO to try and rank your page on top organically. If you want to learn more, then you can click here to read our article about SEO.

Paid Social Media Advertising

Most of the social media platforms allow you to run ads on their site, like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Quora, Linkedin, and many others. Paid social media advertising is a great way to advertise your product to potential customers that don’t even know your product exists, mostly because the ads will randomly pop-up.

Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing is one of the easiest and organic ways to market your business. Using Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and others will always help your business to attract new potential customers.

Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO)

Conversion rate optimization (CRO) is the art and science of improving your online user experience. Most of the time, businesses use CRO to get more conversions (leads, chats, calls, sales, etc) out of their existing website traffic.

Content Marketing

Content marketing uses any digital marketing effort that uses content assets like blog posts, eBooks, videos, images with quality content and others, to build brand awareness or drive new clicks, new leads, or new sales.

Native Advertising

Native advertising is when you scroll to the bottom of some page, and you see links to other suggested articles. This can also be used as content marketing because it uses content to attract clicks.

Email Marketing

Email marketing is one of the oldest forms of online marketing but it’s still used a lot nowadays. Usually, people tend to advertise special deals, new products, new sales and etc.
